Figurative Language

Anomatopeia: "pop"
Metaphor: you are my sunshime
Simile: quiet as a mouse
Rhyme: hall, fall, ball
Personification: the lamp sat on the table
Repetion: baby baby bay oooo
Hyperbole: he's the fastes runner ever
Alliteration: peter piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
Assonance: he saw a ball far away
Imagery: appeal to 5 senses to create a picture for the reader
Allegory: poem that has a 2nd deeper meaning. Example: tortoise- the hare represents the kind of people
Understatement: mr grinch you are looking a little green today
Paradox: war is peace. 2 seemingly opposite ideas working together.
Allusion: dont be such a grinch. Make reference to something in another literary work
Irony: Gentelmen you can't fight in here. This is the war room.
When the intended meaning differs from the meaning the word appears to express
Synecdoche: all hands on deck
When parts represents a whole.
Apostrophe. Twinkle twinkle little star ho I wonder what you are
Adresing somethung non human or dead as a human or alive.
